DESIGN OBJECTIVE

Get the sound of a single ended Fender Champ but with more clean head room, three knob EQ, and a tube driven effects loop.  Conservatively rated at 10 watts of class-A, this amp will deliver enough power to be heard on stage over the drums in a small club if you have the right speaker compliment.

The power amp in the BF-10 starts with two a fixed-bias, single ended parallel power tubes, fed by a tube driven high voltage power supply. Features include huge Mercury power, output, and choke transformers for thick layers of even order harmonic content.

Our tone stack behaves like a typical amp with bass-mid-treble controls, but under the controls are switches for fat boost, 3- way tone control voicing, and a bright boost.  The tone switch voices the bass and mid controls either darker (right), or brighter (left), or full bypass for higher gain and mids (center).

A full featured effects loop with separate send/return level controls that can add up to 10 db of extra gain boost or cut, series or parallel return path, and a switch for pedal or rack effects level matching.

BF-TEN sound Clips
Performed by Joe Chilton

These sound clips were recorded using a single Audix mic into a Korg D1200 without effects. We used a single 8 ohm, closed back 1x12 cabinet (w/Vintage 30 speaker). These clips give you a small taste of the BF-TEN, FX loop bypassed and set for unity gain, other settings noted below and are referenced to the number on the dials:
